April 6th, 2011. Opening Day for the Póg Mo Thóin.
The Boat is working. Repeat, the Boat is working.

With all major repairs complete, the Three Hooligans set sail for a “test run.”
The beer of choice was Rainier, and the animal life we smelled the most were sea lions. As a sailboat, the Póg Mo Thóin performed admirably, but it was the engine, electrical systems and water out-flow that needed a field test. The cooler was also given a shakedown.
Aside from the occasional scratch or smudge that require a spit polish, the Póg Mo Thóin is fully operational. Expect many trips this summer.
The article contains this: “there is no oil sheen, nor is there a chemical sheen,” Hughan said.
That’s correct: there is absolutely NO SHEEN to blame for this. Back off.
Just stop what you’re doing for a moment and imagine what a million dead anchovies must smell like in a harbor that already smells like Pelican urine.
Have a nice day, Redondo!

In order for the Póg Mo Thóin to reach fully armed and operational status, the following issues are being addressed:
We’re getting very, very close.

Who would have thought an engine would pick up so much salt in the ocean? The repairs to the exhaust system and water intake are nearly complete, with parts finally arriving from Japan and a guy named Carl a few rows down in the harbor.

We’ve replaced all of the hoses and scraped out the salt corrosion in the thermometer. The seacock has been repaired, so water should actually flow into the water cooled engine now. Fingers crossed.
Now, the Póg Mo Thóin is a sailboat, so an engine isn’t as crucial to the process as something like a compass or a bottle opener would be, but it was important to conduct these repairs, since they were all connected to what could be called “holes.” Holes in a boat are not a good thing. The other major repair needed is to the guide railings, but that’s a simple welding matter. Maybe Carl knows a guy. Once our railing is fixed and the new window installed, we’re officially sea worthy.
Not much longer now until the Póg Mo Thóin is back in action. It’s going to be a good summer.

Here’s hoping you’re doing okay after your fall, Jimmy. Can’t wait to hear the song about it.
From one set of rule breakers to another.

This is… amazing.

One of the newest and greatest additions to the Póg Mo Thóin. It replaces the cell phone holder, which was quickly abolished on the grounds that it promoted contact with the mainland.
Not exactly a water-themed tune, but a favorite aboard the Póg Mo Thóin.
Can’t wait for all repairs to be complete and to retake the Pacific!
Some more pictures from various adventures.
Another one of the Póg Mo Thóin’s theme songs.
The boat has recently upgraded the stereo system to include Satellite Radio. Another benefit: the battery charge on this sound system will last longer than 45 minutes. The Crew will no longer have to reenact scenes from our favorite movies for entertainment on the longer voyages. We may keep doing it anyway, though.
A few weeks ago, the Póg Mo Thóin picked up an extra passenger while in Port. Normally, it is the policy of the crew to welcome any new companion aboard, provided that they have been invited. This new passenger not only displayed poor eating habits and uncivilized toilet behavior, but ate holes in some of our life jackets.
Rest assured, proper action (and cleaning) has been taken. We will not tolerate stowaways.
Pirates and wenches are welcome.
